Welcome to Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Auburn Hills is a city located in Oakland County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 19,837. The city was formed in 1983 from the now defunct Pontiac Township, Michigan. Auburn Hills is home to the United States headquarters of DaimlerChrysler, Walter P. Chrysler Museum, as well as The Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Palace of Auburn Hills (see photo) is currently the largest arena in the NBA. This has helped the Detroit Pistons to achieve the highest fan attendance in the league since 2002.
Aaron Webster named the town Auburn Hills after Auburn, New York, where the first settlers had come from in 1821. It was often overlooked by business and residential developers but today, as the areas around it grew, it has become part of the Metropolitan Detroit area. It is now one of the fastest growing suburbs of Southeastern Michigan.
Incorporated in 1983 (from Pontiac Township), the City of Auburn Hills is a community rich with history. The Civic Center property is home to many historical landmarks. The property is the former estate of millionaire real estate developer Wesson Seyburn, husband of Winifred Dodge, the oldest child of John F. Dodge. Seyburn once used the 37 acre estate as a weekend getaway.
Today, Auburn Hills is in the unique position of having been "built in" to the center of metropolitan growth. Situated at the intersection of the I-75 and M-59 corridors, the City has become a prime location with easy access for Oakland University, Baker College, and Oakland Community College high-tech research facilities. Auburn Hills is convenient to two major airports, prime residential areas, entertainment, recreational, and cultural facilities. Affectionately known as the high-tech, corporate capital of Oakland County, Auburn Hills is poised to add significantly to the overall quality of life of Detroit's northwest suburbs. In addition to its economic and cultural strength, Auburn Hills is the proud home of the NBA Detroit Pistons and is rapidly growing as both businesses and families recognize the advantages of this wonderful city.
